Black Bear Field Hockey, Womens Soccer split Sunday contests

The University of Maine Field Hockey team got goals from six different players to record a 6-1 victory over visiting Sacred Heart at the Maine Field Hockey Complex in Orono Sunday afternoon.

Libby Reidl, Lydia Gavner, Riley Field, Samantha Wagg, Madison Cummings and Casey Crowley all scored for the 2-0 Black Bears.

Allie Brouhard scored 58 minutes into action for Sacred Heart to spoil the shutout bid by Emma Cochran.

Maine will travel to Hofstra for a 3 p.m. matchup on Friday, September 2nd.

 

 

The University of Maine Womens Soccer team was not as fortunate on Sunday as the Providence College Friars sent Maine to their first loss of the early season by a score of 1-0 in a game played at Thornton Academy in Saco.

Kathryn Hiller scored at the 37:21 mark of the first half for the lone goal of the contest.

Kristyn Shea stopped all eight Maine shots on goal to pick up her first win and first shutout of the season for the Friars.

Annalena Kriebisch stopped three of the four shots on goal for the 3-1 Black Bears.

Maine returns to action on Saturday, September 3rd at 12:30 p.m. when they travel to Amherst, MA to battle UMass.
