Well I am certainly off to a rough start in the picks as I was only able to go 1-3-0 last weekend dropping me to 2-5-1 so far. The Maine Black Bears have surprised through four games compiling a 3-1-0 start including a split with #4 Quinnipiac last weekend with both games going to overtime. This weekend the Bears head to Miami of Ohio and I pick two other games involving Hockey East teams.
Last week- 1-3-0 Season- 2-5-1
Last weeks results:
Friday, October 14
Maine 4, Quinnipiac 3 (ot) incorrect pick
Minnesota-Deluth 4, Notre Dame 3 incorrect pick
Saturday, October 15
Quinnipiac 3, Maine 2 (ot) incorrect pick
Denver 3, Boston University 1 correct pick
This weeks games:
Friday, October 21
#22 Maine (3-1-0) at Miami (Ohio) (1-1-1)
The Black Bears take their national ranking into their first road matchup of the season to Steve Cady Arena in Oxford, Ohio to battle the Redhawks out of the NCHC. Maine has seen great production so far from the freshman class including Mitchell Fossier who has five goals and three assists in his first four collegiate games.
The pick- I picked a split for Maine last weekend and was correct on that just picked the wrong night that they were able to come up with a win. I will go with Friday night this week. Maine 3, Miami 2
#12 St Lawrence (3-1-0) at #5 UMass-Lowell (2-0-2)
The Riverhawks welcome in the Saints for a Friday night matchup at Tsongas Arena. Lowell got back on track last weekend after a pair of ties opening weekend by easily sweeping Colorado College on the road. St Lawrence beat a pair of Hockey East teams on the road last weekend with wins over UNH and Merrimack.
The pick- Too much offense for the Riverhawks sends the Saints to their second loss of the season. UMass-Lowell 6, St Lawrence 3
Saturday, October 22
Maine at Miami (Ohio)
For the third straight weekend Maine enters the Saturday night game looking for a sweep but this series has split written all over it.
The pick- Miami 4, Maine 2
#4 Quinnipiac (3-1-1) at #8 Boston University (1-2-0)
The Bobcats come in after a split with Maine last weekend and a 5-2 midweek win over Connecticut. The Terriers won their opener two weeks ago but was swept by Jim Montgomerys Denver Pioneers in Denver last weekend.
The pick- Something tells me to stay with the Terriers in this one. I am not that overly impressed with the play of Quinnipiac to this point. I will go with my first instinct. Boston University 2, Quinnipiac 1 (overtime)
