Disarcina named Red Sox bench coach:  Betts has knee surgery

November 11, 2016

The Red Sox needed to fill their bench coach position when the Arizona Diamondbacks named Torey Lovullo their manager.

They didn’t take long to fill that position as they named former Lowell Spinners and Pawtucket Red Sox manager Gary Disarcinia to that spot in the Red Sox dugout.

The Red Sox announced that Mookie Betts had successful right knee surgery. He is expected to be at full strength by the start of Spring training, but this rules him out of the World Baseball classic. Betts has won a gold glove and a silver slugger award this offseason. He is also one of the three finalist for the American League Most Valuable Player Award. The winner of the MVP award will be announced next week.
