The University of Maine at Fort Kent Men and Womens Soccer teams claimed National Championships over the weekend in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The UMFK Lady Bengals finished off a perfect 21-0 season and fourth straight national title Sunday by defeating SUNY-ESF 2-0 in the championship game. Jennifer Cudjoe and Sherifatu Sumaila scored the goals while goalkeeper Peighton Ahlberg stopped all nine shots she faced to record the shutout.

The UMFK Men lost in the semifinal round Saturday to Florida National University. However, a forfeiture of the win by Florida National under USCAA rules, allowed UMFK to advance to the title game. The forfeiture came as a result of the Florida National coach getting a red card and having contact with his own players.

In the championship game Sunday, UMFK stayed tied through two overtime periods at 3-3 with Bryant & Stratton College from New York. The Bengals won in penalty kicks 4-2 to claim their second straight title and finish off a 22-0 season.
