The Wells Warriors dominated from start to finish in a 44-0 win over Mount Desert Island (MDI) in the class C state championship game played Saturday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.
Evan Whitten totaled 225 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries. Riley Dempsey finished with 137 yards and one touchdown on 18 rushes. Wells (10-1) had 409 total yards, while holding MDI to only 53 yards.
Whitten, Owen Berry, and Michael Wrigley had first half scores as the Warriors held a 21-0 halftime lead. Including Saturday, the Wells defense had five shutouts this season. The last state championship for Wells came in 2011 when they were in class B. MDI finishes the season with a record of 9-2.
