BANGOR- The Highview Christian Academy girls basketball team raced out to a 15 point halftime lead, and defeated Greater Portland Christian 48-28 Friday night in a Class D South season opener at the UMA-Bangor Campus Fitness Center.
Greater Portland Christian (0-1) took an early 4-2 first quarter lead, but the Knights from Charleston outscored the Lions 21-4 the rest of the first half and led 23-8 at halftime.
GPC got within 13 a few times in the second half, but go no closer as HCA goes to 1-0.
Cassidy Lessner had a game high 26 points, while Megan McDonald contributed 14 for the hosts. The 26 for Lessner was also a career high for the junior center.
GPC was led by Grace Mears who had eight points, while Aubrey Vickman had seven.
Highview returns to action Tuesday when they host Temple Academy at 6:30 p.m. Greater Portland Christian hits the road again Tuesday when they face Seacoast Christian at 5:30 p.m.
