GUILFORD– The Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Pirates girls basketball team went on a 7-1 run to end the first half and rolled to a 51-25 season opening win over Schenck on Friday night.
Sara Almirante led the way for the Pirates with 18 points, seven steals, and five assists. Erin Speed recorded 14 points and five steals, Lexi Harris added 13 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists.
PCHS jumped out to a 13-7 lead after the first quarter behind six points from Harris. Schenck started the second quarter by going on a 7-2 run. Speed nailed a three pointer with two minutes remaining in the half to give the Pirates an 18-14 lead. PCHS took the momentum from that point.
The Pirates sealed the game by outscoring Schenck 16-4 in the third quarter, Harris put in seven points during the quarter. Almirante and Speed combined for 11 fourth quarter points,
Alivia Hunt recorded 11 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks for the Pirates. PCHS out rebounded Schenck 32-16. Bailey Lemieux scored four points and grabbed three rebounds. Olivia Riitano scored two points and pulled down three rebounds. The Pirates shot 10-14 from the free throw line. PCHS (1-0) is scheduled to play at George Stevens on Monday.
Allison Noddin led the Wolverines with eight points. Anna Sewell added seven points, Baileigh Osborne scored four points, Samantha Falone recorded three points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Sarah Doane scored two points, while Olivia Gallant made one free throw. The Wolverines shot 7-10 from the free throw line. Schenck (0-1) is scheduled to host Lee Academy on Monday.
