Maine Womens Basketball holds off Big Green late charge

The University of Maine Womens basketball team built a 16 point third quarter lead, then held off a late rally by visiting Dartmouth to pick up a 60-55 non-conference win Saturday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Dartmouth was able to cut the Black Bear lead to just three with under a minute to play, but Maine made some clutch foul shots down the stretch to even their record at 5-5.

Laia Sole had 15 points and four rebounds, while Sigi Koizar also scored 15 points, had six rebounds, and three assists. Koizar scored 11 of Maines 12 points in the fourth quarter after a slow start.

Andi Norman led Dartmouth (3-5) with a game high 26 points, including 7-13 shooting from the three point line. Kate Letkewicz had 11 points and eight rebounds for the Big Green.

Overall Maine shot 45.8% percent from the floor, but just 6-21 (28.6%) from the three point stripe. Dartmouth shot 42.9% from the floor, but knocked down 11-26 (42.3%) from the three point arc. Both teams struggled from the foul line as Maine only shot 10-22 and Dartmouth 2-5.

Maine returns to action next Saturday at 1 p.m. when they travel to Smithfield, Rhode Island the battle Bryant. Dartmouth returns home next Saturday to face Marist at 1 p.m.
