For the first time since early October, the University of Maine Mens Hockey team is on a winning streak as they head into Christmas break.
Maine has won two in a row after dispatching of American International College 7-2 Saturday evening at Alfond Arena to sweep the two game weekend series. Maine improves to 7-9-3 overall.
While much success Friday night came on the powerplay (5 for 7) in a 5-3 win, Maine scored five even strength goals Saturday.
Chase Pearson, who netted his first career hat trick the night before, tied the game 2-2 by scoring with less than a second left in the opening period, and then had the eventual game winner midway through the second period. Maine scored a pair of goals in the second and then three in the third period to put the game away.
Five Black Bears had multiple point nights including Pearson with a pair of goals and an assist. Blaine Byron had a pair of goals. Nolan Vesey had a goal and an assist. Rob Michel had a pair of assists and Cam Brown, who had three assists Friday, picked up three more Saturday. AIC (3-8-6) got goals from Shawn McBride and Hugo Reinhardt in the loss.
Rob McGovern stopped 22 of 24 shots to pick up the win in net for Maine. Zackarias Skog played in net the first two periods for AIC and allowed four goals on 14 shots. Alex Murray played the third and allowed three goals on 16 shots.
Maine returns to action on Friday, December 30th as they travel to Manchester, NH to battle rival UNH in a non-conference tilt at 7 p.m. AIC heads home to host Arizona State Tuesday at 7 p.m.
