MCI/Nokomis girls and Washington Academy/MDI boys highlight a busy Thursday night high school basketball schedule

The Nokomis Warriors and Maine Central Institute girls basketball teams will look continue their strong early season play when they meet at Nokomis high school in Newport this evening.

Nokomis (2-0) defeated Mt. Blue 43-20 in their hime opener and followed that up with a 56-46 overtime win at Lawrence. The Warriors will host another 2-0 team on Saturday when Waterville travels to Newport.

MCI (2-0) defeated Spruce Mountain 52-42 and Winslow 51-36 in their first two games. April McAlpine scored 21 points in the victory over the Black Raiders. The Huskies will play another tough class A opponent on Saturday when they host Skowhegan.

In boys basketball, Washington Academy will travel to Bar Harbor for a showdown with the MDI Trojans. The Raiders have started the season with convincing wins over Summer and Calais. MDI rolled in their season opener over Old Town. The Trojans are one of the favorites in class B North. MDI will have another test on Saturday when they travel to Hermon.
