The Highview Christian girls basketball team rallied from down 11 with six minutes left, but fell just short as Deer Isle-Stonington escaped with a 41-40 win Tuesday afternoon at Deer Isle in Class D action.
The Mariners held a 22-11 lead at halftime and held the same 11 point advantage two minutes into the fourth quarter, before Highview rallied. A shot by Kelsi Upham with 14 seconds left on the clock was tipped away, and the Knights were unable to get the ball back.
Highview (1-3) was led by Cassidy Lessner who had 13 points. Upham chipped in 11 as the Knights, out of Class D South, dropped their third straight game.
Lily Gray had 16 points and Brienna Limeburner added 13 for Deer Isle who goes to 2-2 in Class D North.
Highview Christian Academy returns to action on Thursday at home when they host Shead at 3:30 p.m. Deer Isle also plays Thursday when they travel to Bucksport for a 7 p.m. tip.
