Andrew Fleming had his first career double double Tuesday night, but it wasn’t enough as the Providence College Friars took down the Maine Black Bears in Mens basketball action 79-59 at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island before 4,257 fans.
The Black Bears were able to stay with the Friars early on despite a 1-6 start from the floor. The Friars broke it open later in the first half with an 18-2 run to take their biggest lead at 31-12. Maine was able to get the lead back down to 10, but Providence recovered and jumped the lead back up to 16 at halftime, 41-25.
Providence (10-2) led by as many as 27 in the second half, dropping Maine to 4-8 on the season.
Fleming finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Wes Myers led the Bears in points with 13. Myers also chipped in an assist, two blocks, and two steals.
Providence put nine players into the scoring book led by a double double from Emmitt Holt who had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jalen Lindsay had 12 points, nine rebounds, and two steals.
Maine shot 39 percent from the floor and only 46 percent from the foul line (6-13). Providence shot 42 percent for the game but 83 percent from the line (19-23).
Maine returns to action Thursday afternoon as they stay in the state of Rhode Island to face Brown at 3:30 p.m. Providence travels to Boston College for a 4 p.m. tip Friday against the Eagles.
