CORINTH, Me- Junior guard Sydney Allen made 6-6 from the foul line in overtime Saturday evening, as the Central Red Devils knocked off the Presque Isle Wildcats 47-42 in an exciting Class B North girls basketball game.
Allen finished with 17 points for the Red Devils, as they outscored the visiting Wildcats 10-5 in the extra session.
Emily Wheaton had 26 points for Presque Isle (4-3), including a three pointer with just five seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. Emily Lagerstrom also had 11 points, eight rebounds, and a steal for the Wildcats.
PI had led 14-13 after one, 25-20 at halftime, and 31-30 after three quarters.
Emily Smith chipped in nine points and nine rebounds for Central (6-1). Freshman Abigail Allen also had nine points, and Libby Cook had eight points, nine rebounds, and two blocked shots.
S. Allen was 11-12 from the foul line in the game, and Central collectively shot 16-21 from the foul stripe. PI was just 1-9 from the line, but knocked down nine three pointers to stay in the game, including six of those from Wheaton. PI outrebounded Central 27-22.
Up next for Central is a home game against Mattanawcook Academy on Wednesday night. Presque Isle also has a home game as they host Caribou Tuesday. Both games are at 7 p.m.
