The James Madison University Dukes captured the Division 1AA football national title Saturday afternoon in Frisco, Texas with a 28-14 win over Youngstown State.
Khalid Abdullah rushed for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns for JMU (14-1). Abdullah finished the season with a school record 1,809 yards rushing, and an FCS-best 22 touchdowns.
Bryan Schor also passed for a pair of touchdowns as JMU won their second national title, the first since 2004.
The JMU defense had five sacks and forced two turnovers in the game.
Youngstown State finished their season at 12-4, appearing in their first title game since 1999.
JMU suffered their only loss this season to FBS opponent North Carolina. This is the first time in six seasons that someone other than North Dakota State has lifted the trophy, as NDS had won the last five titles in a row. JMU knocked out the Bison in the semifinals 27-17 at the Fargo Dome.
