Unfortunately a new calender year hasn’t changed the fortunes for the University of Maine Mens basketball team. The Black Bears dropped their seventh straight game Sunday, falling to UMBC 75-64 in an America East game at the RAC in Baltimore, Maryland.
Wes Myers continued his impressive play of late, scoring a game high 28 points, grabbing seven rebounds, with one blocked shot, and three steals. But it wasn’t enough as Maine dropped to 4-13, and 0-2 in conference play.
Vincent Eze had 11 points and three rebounds and Marko Pirovic also had 11 and grabbed five rebounds for the Bears. Maine hasn’t won since a December 10th road win at Dartmouth College.
UMBC (11-4, 2-0) put four players in double figures, led by Nolan Gerrity who had 18 points, seven rebounds, one block, and one steal. Jarius Lyles had 17 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals. K.J. Maura had 13 points and 11 assists, while Will Darley chipped in 11 points.
The Retrievers have won two in a row and four of their last five, with the only loss coming at Virginia Tech.
Maine returns home Wednesday night to host UMass-Lowell, while UMBC travels to Hartford Wednesday night to battle the Hawks. Both contests scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip.
