Started out last week at 0-2 right out the gate, but bounced back by picking both Frozen Fenway games correct to finish at .500. This week Maine gets back into Hockey East play against UConn at Bridgeport tonight and at Fenway Park Saturday. I also look at three other Hockey East games including the second game at Fenway Park Saturday.
Last week- 2-2-0 Season record 30-16-6
This weeks games:
Thursday, January 12
Maine (7-10-3, 1-6-1 Hockey East) at Connecticut (8-7-6, 4-3-2 Hockey East)
At Bridgeport the Black Bears try to win their first road game of the season (0-6-3). Maine hasn’t started out well since the break ended, losing to UNH in non-conference and dropping an exhibition game last Friday to the USA Under 18 Development Team. UConn comes in after a Saturday night loss at home to Yale.
The pick- This isn’t the night Maine breaks on the wins board on the road. Just wouldn’t feel confident with that pick. UCONN 3, MAINE 2
Friday, January 13
#8 Boston College (14-7-2, 9-1-1 Hockey East) at #5 Boston University (12-5-2, 5-2-2 Hockey East)
A big home and home Boston clash between the two Beantown powers. BC comes off a 3-1 win over Providence Sunday at Frozen Fenway, while the Terriers beat UMass at the Fens.
The pick- We will take the road team in this one, just like their defense a bit better currently. BC 4, BU 2
Saturday, January 14
Frozen Fenway- Game 1
Maine vs Connecticut
Should be a good Maine crowd at the Fens for the opening game and second Hockey East game in three days for the two schools.
The pick- Maine has always played well at Fenway. I will take them in this one. MAINE 4, UCONN 2
Game 2
New Hampshire (10-8-2, 5-2-1 Hockey East) vs Northeastern (7-9-4, 1-7-2 Hockey East)
Similar to Maine and UConn, the Wildcats and Huskies play a weekend series with the first game at UNH and then this one at the old park on Yawkey. UNH lost a tight 2-1 game to #7 UMass-Lowell last Friday, before beating Brown 7-4 on the road Sunday. Northeastern lost a tough 4-3 decision last weekend at #13 Vermont.
The pick- Like the ‘Cats in this spot, playing real well lately and tougher in Hockey East. The Huskies are down at the bottom with Maine in the conference standings. UNH 5, NORTHEASTERN 3
