GUILFORD– The Piscataquis Community High School Pirates girls basketball team defeated Greenville 45-28 on Friday evening. It is the eighth straight victory for the Pirates.
PCHS had six different scorers in the first quarter as they built an 11-5 lead. The Pirates shot 5-7 from the free throw line in the second quarter and held a 21-14 halftime lead.
PCHS outscored Greenville 27-14 in the second half. Erin Speed led the Pirates with 13 points, seven steals, six rebounds, and three assists.
Sara Almirante recorded eight points, eight steals, and four assists. Alivia Hunt and Bailey Lemieux had seven points each. Hunt also pulled down seven rebounds. Lexi Harris and Olivia Riitano put in four points each, while Jewel Lamb added two points. PCHS (10-2) will travel to Dexter next Friday. Eastern Maine Sports will have live coverage starting around 6:50 PM.
Freshman Halle Pelletier led the Lakers with 13 points, four rebounds, and three blocked shots, Jessica Pomerleau added seven points (2 three-pointers), Tiegan Murray put in four points, while Lily Pelletier and Bianca Breten recorded two points each. Greenville (5-7) will host Machias tomorrow afternoon.
The Pirates out-rebounded Greenville 28-21. The Lakers had 30 turnovers, PCHS had 12. The Pirates shot 13-23 from the free throw line, while Greenville shot 4-7.
A total of $2,000 was raised on Friday night for the Aliza Jean Family Cancer Foundation.
