GUILFORD- Nick Foley scored seven of his team high 15 points in the first quarter to lift the Greenville Lakers boys basketball team to a 46-36 win over Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) on Friday night.
The Pirates, who were coming off a 10 day layoff had a slow start and fell behind 15-6 after the first quarter. Both teams scored seven points in the second quarter as the Lakers took a 22-13 lead into halftime.
Bryce Gilbert started the second half on fire. Gilbert scored 12 of his game high 22 points in the third quarter to keep the Pirates within striking distance.
PCHS got the game within five points in the fourth quarter. Devin Boone scored five points, while Foley and Matt Mendes made two free throws each in the final eight minutes to secure the Greenville victory.
Damyan True recorded seven points and five rebounds for the Pirates. Dillion Drew put in four points, while Cameron Kane made a three pointer in the fourth quarter. Gilbert recorded six rebounds and three steals. PCHS (4-6) will host Dexter on Monday. Eastern Maine Sports will have live audio coverage starting at 6:50 PM.
Boone had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Lakers, Evan Bjork added seven points and four steals. Mendes and Connor DiAngelo put in four points each. DiAngelo also had 11 rebounds. Noah Pratt recorded four points, four rebounds, and three assists. Greenville (9-1) will bring a nine game winning streak into their game on Saturday afternoon against undefeated Machias. The Lakers only loss this season came at Machias in the first game of the season.
Greenville out-rebounded the Pirates 30-23. The Lakers shot 13-22 from the free throw line, while PCHS shot 11-15.
A total of $2,000 was raised on Friday night for the Aliza Jean Family Cancer Foundation.
