BANGOR- Crystal Bell scored 15 of her game high 30 points in the first quarter to lead the John Bapst Crusaders to a 64-31 win over Mattanawcook at the Cross Insurance Center on Wednesday night.
Bell scored the first seven points of the game to help the Crusaders start quickly. She scored nine of the first 11 points for John Bapst as they built the lead to 11-2. The Lynx cut the deficit to 13-11 on a Courtney Gordon three pointer. The Crusaders followed that up with a 9-0 run to take a 22-11 lead. The first quarter ended with John Bapst leading 22-13.
Emily Tolman got a basket to cut the deficit to 22-15. That would be as close as the Lynx would get. The Crusaders went on a 10-0 run to take a 32-15 lead.
John Bapst outscored Mattanawcook 17-8 in the second quarter to take a 39-21 lead into halftime. The Crusaders allowed only four Lynx field goals in the second half.
Bell recorded eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals to go with her 30 points. Grace Philippon, Tiana Cyr, Sydney Ellis, and Madi Higgins scored six points each. Abbey Legasse put in five points, while Tia Zephir added three points and Emilee Soucie chipped in with two. John Bapst (10-5) will play at Hermon on Monday,
The Crusaders out rebounded Mattanawcook 40-21. John Bapst shot 3-4 from the free throw line, the Lynx shot 2-5. Mattanawcook had 19 turnovers, while John Bapst had only seven.
Emily Tolman led the Lynx with eight points, Gordon recorded seven points, four assists, and two steals. Kianna Hanford, Haley McLaughlin, and Natalie Tilton added four points and nine rebounds, while Kim Voisine put in two points, Audrey Tash and Katie Tolman each made one free throw. Mattanawcook (2-13) will next play on February 1st when they host Hermon.
