Another week above the .500 mark at 2-1-1 puts me 16 games over the .500 point with eight ties. This week the Maine Black Bears look to string together two straight conference wins, which hasn’t happened yet this season when it welcomes in UMass to the Alfond. I also take a look at two other Hockey East matchups.
Last week: 2-1-1 Season: 34-18-8
Last weeks results:
Friday 1/20
Boston University 4 Maine 1 correct pick
Ohio State 3, Penn State 3 tied pick
Saturday 1/21
Boston University 3 Maine 1 incorrect pick
Notre Dame 3 UNH 0 correct pick
This weeks games:
Friday, January 27
UMass-Amherst (5-17-2, 2-9-1 HE) at Maine (8-13-3, 2-9-1 HE)
The Minutemen and Black Bears try to climb out of the cellar of Hockey East with a series with some valuable points on the line. UMass hasn’t won since a 2-1 overtime win back on 12/30 in the Mariucci Classic against Alabama-Huntsville. Last time out UMass got beaten by BC 6-1 last Friday on the road. Maine has only won one time since a home sweep of AIC back on 12/9 and 12/10. The Bears got swept in a home and home with BU last weekend.
The pick- UMass has lost five straight and only carries a 1-6-0 road record into this weekend into the Alfond, where Maine has played some decent hockey at 7-5-0. MAINE 4, UMASS 2
Merrimack (9-13-3, 3-7-3 HE) at #1 Boston University (16-6-2, 9-3-2 HE)
A weird home and home series which started Tuesday at Merrimack finishes up at Agannis Friday night. The Warriors ended the Terriers eight game winning streak with a 3-1 Tuesday night at North Andover.
The pick- Terriers bounce back in a big way over the visiting Warriors. BU 5, MERRIMACK 2
Saturday, January 28
UMass at Maine
The Bears look for their first conference sweep of the year. It won’t be as easy as Friday night, as the Minutemen also will play hard for some of those points.
The pick- I don’t pick it with complete confidence, but the talent level favors Maine allowing them to pick up the sweep. Again not feeling completely confident. MAINE 3, UMASS 2
#15 Notre Dame (14-8-3, 7-4-2 HE) at #13 Boston College (16-8-2, 11-3-1 HE)
The Irish visit Conte Forum for a single weekend game with the Eagles. Notre Dame tied and beat UNH last weekend at home, while BC had the home victory Friday over UMass, and a 2-1 home win over UConn Tuesday night.
The pick- The Eagles continue their dominance in Hockey East play. BC 4, NOTRE DAME 1
