Key Second Half Adjustments Lift PCMS Boys over Sebasticook

January 28, 2017

GUILFORD- In the first round of the playoffs, PCMS was down 20-19 going into the half as they were looking for answers as Sebasticook had stormed back to take the lead. Coach Merle Gilbert told the team in the locker room that “You need to come out playing in the third quarter like you did the second, you cant come out flat like we usually do.” The boys heard that message loud and clear as they put up 23 points in the third to take a some what commanding lead over SVMS.

Gilbert also told the team that “we need to shut down their best player if we want to win this game.” That player was Nick Lovley who in the first half tallied 11 points and had three 3-pointers. PCMS would end up winning 55-45.

PCMS was lead by 8th Grader Kobe Gilbert younger brother of PCHS star Bryce Gilbert, Kobe put up a game high 24 points (5 threes) and had 7 rebounds for the Pirates. Colby Chadwick came up big in the second half scoring 13 points and getting six rebounds and going 7 for 10 from the free throw line. While Caleb Willis had 11 points and two big threes in the 3rd quarter. Defensively PCMS had four blocks and nine steals.

For Sebasticook, they were lead by Nick Lovley who put up a team high 17 points for the Wildcats, while both Jacob Hennessey and Nick Rzyci tallied seven points. Defensively they had three steals and two blocks while forcing nine turnovers.

PCMS advances to the Semis and will play next Wednesday at #1 Central, the biggest issue that Coach Gilbert said that the team needs to work on is their ability to play zone defense and getting more rebounds in the game.
