Central gets the party started at the Cross Insurances Center

The Central Red Devils boys and girls basketball teams will take the floor on opening night of the Maine Principals’ Assocation tournament play at the Cross Insurance Center.

Class AA girls got the quarterfinal action started on Thursday night at Portland and Augusta. On Friday night, things will get started in Bangor. The third seeded Central boys will get things started at 5 PM when they take on the sixth seeded Winslow Black Raiders.

The Red Devils earned the third seed after winning their final three games of the regular season. Central (15-3) went 5-2 against teams currently still playing in the tournament.  Winslow (15-4) earned a trip to the Cross Insurance Center after defeating MCI 51-44 in a class B prelim win last night. The Black Raiders are 4-2 against current tourney teams.

The MDI boys come in at 15-3 and the second seed in class B North. The Trojans will take on Belfast in a quarterfinal game at 6:30. MDI was at the top of the standings for most of the season. They finished the season going 2-3 in their last five games. MDI went 5-2 against current tourney teams.

Belfast advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Houlton in a prelim game. The Lions  come in 10-9 with a very tough regular season schedule. They went 5-6 against current tourney teams, including 2-3 against class A tourney teams Medomak Valley, Oceanside, and Nokomis.

The Red Devils girls will take the floor in the final game of the night when they take on the Foxcroft Ponies. The teams know each other well, they split during the regular season.  Each team won on their home court, including Central winning in the regular season finale.

Central (14-5) went 5-5 against current tournament teams. The Red Devils have won three straight, including a prelim win over Washington Academy.

Foxcroft (14-4) have won nine of their last 10 games. The Ponies went 6-4 against current tournament teams.
