Simpson lifts Ponies to quarterfinal win over Central

BANGOR— Abigail Simpson scored 19 points, including 11 in the second half to lead the Foxcroft Ponies in a 52-44 victory over Central in a Maine Principals’ Association class B North quarterfinal contest on Friday night.

The Ponies went on a 12-0 run to start the game and held a 12-4 lead after the first quarter. Sydney Allen sparked a second quarter surge for the Red Devils. Allen scored eight of her game high 24 points (13-16 FT) as Central cut the deficit to 23-21 heading into halftime.

Simpson scored seven points in the third quarter as the Ponies expanded the lead to 37-31 with eight minutes to play. Foxcroft made five free throws and five field goals in the final quarter and that was enough to hold off Allen and the Red Devils. Allen put in eight points in the fourth quarter.

Allen recorded six steals and five rebounds for the Red Devils, Emilee Cohen and Libby Cook scored six points each. Emily Smith added four points and six rebounds, while Emma Campbell and Abi Allen chipped in with two points each. Central finishes the season with a 15-5 record.

Abbi Bourget scored 10 points (eight in the first half), Mackenzie Beaudry put in six points and grabbed four rebounds, while Kendra Ewer scored six points (6-9 FT) and dished out four assists, Alli Bourget also scored six points. Grace Bickford filled up the stat sheet with five points, nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Simpson also pulled down eight rebounds and blocked two shots.  Foxcroft (15-4) will play the winner of Presque Isle/John Bapst in a semifinal game on Wednesday, February 22nd at 7:05 PM.
