BANGOR- The top seed Houlton Shiretowners girls basketball team held off a second half surge from Mount Desert Island and earn a 47-39 win in a Maine Principals’ Association class B North quarterfinal victory over MDI on Saturday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center.
Houlton held a 22-12 lead at halftime, They started the second half by scoring the first seven points to take a 17 point advantage.
MDI went on an 18-2 run to cut the deficit to 31-30. Houlton held a 33-30 lead after the third quarter. The Trojans took their only lead with 3:15 remaining in the fourth quarter. Rylee Warman gave the Shiretowners a lead they wouldn’t give back with three minutes remaining. Houlton went 20-28 from the free throw line, including 10-12 in the second half to seal the victory.
Kolleen Bouchard led the way for the Shiretowners with 18 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and three steals. Warman had 13 points and three steals. Tessa Solomon scored six points, including four in the fourth quarter. Houlton (18-1) will take on Hermon in a semifinal game on Wednesday, February 22nd at 8:35 PM.
Julia Watras and Mariah Hamer led the Trojans with eight points each. MDI finishes the season with a 12-8 record.
