Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 211 past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we had 14 Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominations. Freshman Isaac Varney scored 25 points as the top seed Hermon Hawks came back to earn a 55-51 class B quarterfinal win over Washington Academy. Varney joins Tyler Thayer – (2-17-14), Karli Theberge- (5-29-16), and Alex Allain (11-1-15) as student/athletes from Hermon high school that have been named athlete of the week. Theberge is a seven time winner.

Justin Thompson- Schenck- basketball- scored 28 points, pulled down 14 rebounds, and dished out eight assists in 85-52 class C prelim win over Sumner.

Chris King – Schenck- basketball- scored 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in 85-52 class C prelim win over Sumner.
Ethan Mailman- Central- basketball- scored 12 of his 19 points in fourth quarter in 49-41 class B quarterfinal win over Winslow.
Caleb Shaw – Central- basketball- scored 17 points in 49-41 win over Winslow.
Nate Desisto- Orono – basketball- scored 21 points in 54-46 class B quarterfinal win over Presque Isle.
Jake Koffman- Orono- basketball- recorded 14 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks in 54-46 class B quarterfinal win over Presque Isle.
Jacob Flewelling- Easton- basketball- scored 17 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in 55-34 class D quarterfinal win over Wisdom.
Michael Norton- Oceanside- basketball- scored 27 points in 53-49 class A quarterfinal win over Nokomis.
