Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 211 past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we had 11 Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Sophie Holmes scored 33 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter in leading top seed Messalonskee to a quarterfinal win over Gardiner. Holmes joins Sam Dexter (10-6-11), Kristy Bernatchez (10-21-12), Chase Cunningham (3-8-14), and Jared Cunningham (3-8-14) as student/athletes from Messalonskee high school that have been named athlete of the week.

Sydney Allen – Central – Basketball – Sydney recorded 18 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and three steals in Central’s 43-32 class. prelim win over Washington Academy. Scored 24 points (three 3-pointers, 13-16 from the FT line), had six steals, and five rebounds in 52-44 quarterfinal loss to Foxcroft.

Kayli Cunningham- Dexter- basketball- recorded 14 points, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists in 45-28 class C North prelim win over Schenck.
Abby Webber- Dexter- basketball- scored 11 points (3 three pointers) in 45-28 class C North prelim win over Schenck.
Crystal Bell- John Bapst- basketball- scored 22 points (11-12 FT) and grabbed 10 rebounds in 55-37 class B prelim win over Ellsworth. Scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds in 37-36 class B quarterfinal loss to Presque Isle.
Madison Leighton – Narraguagus- basketball- recorded 23 points, 10 steals, and five rebounds in 60-41 class C prelim win over Fort Kent.

Kolleen Bouchard- Houlton- basketball- recorded 18 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks, three steals, and three assists in 47-39 class B quarterfinal win over MDI.
Rylee Warman- Houlton- basketball- scored 13 points, including a crucial 3-pointer with three minutes left, and has three steals in 47-39 quarterfinal win over MDI.
