BANGOR— Sophomore Kassandra Farley scored 22 points, including going 9-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to lead sixth seeded Washburn to a 54-47 victory over third seeded Central Aroostook in a Maine Principals’ Association class D girls quarterfinal game played Monday Morning at the Cross Insurance Center.
The Beavers outscored the Panthers after Central Aroostook jumped out to a 7-0 lead. Washburn went on an 8-0 run to take a 17-10 lead in the second quarter. The Beavers held a 22-18 halftime advantage.
Washburn went on another 8-0 early in the third quarter to take a 30-21 lead. They built the lead up to 41-27 with 6:16 left in the fourth quarter.
Central Aroostook cut the deficit to 48-43 win 1:06 remaining. Clutch free throw shooting from Farley and her sophomore classmate Alexis Carney sealed the victory for the Beavers.
The Beavers fell to Central Aroostook twice during the regular season. Farley also recorded nine rebounds and two assists. Freshman Kristen Sarmiento added 11 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Her freshman classmate Skyler Mette chipped in with with eight points, three rebounds, and three steals. Carney scored seven points and dished out three assists. Kristen Sarmiento scored six points and pulled down three rebounds. Washburn (11-8) will play in a semifinal game on Thursday, February 23rd at 7:05 PM.
Ashlee Harris led the Panthers wit 14 points (10 in 4th quarter), two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Katelyn Levesque added 11 points, Caitlyn Harris chipped in with eight points, three rebounds, and two assists. Breanne Bradbury scored six points and pulled down eight rebounds. Kassidy Levesque recorded five points, six rebounds, and two assists. Kelsey Dominique put in a first quarter three pointer. Central Aroostook finishes the season with a 13-6 record
