BANGOR- George Stevens Academy point guard Taylor Schildroth threw an alley oop pass for a dunk by Jarrod Chase on the first play of the game Tuesday night, setting the stage for an impressive 72-31 Eagles victory over Woodland in a Class C schoolboy quarterfinal game at the Cross Insurance Center.
GSA (19-0), started the game on a 19-0 run and led 24-2 after one quarter of play. The Eagles led 41-15 at the half and 63-25 at the end of three quarters, and the largest lead was 41 points, which was the final margin of victory.
GSA was led by Max Mattson who finished with 13 points, six rebounds, one blocked shot, and one steal. Schildroth sat most of the second half and finished with 12 points, five assists, three rebounds, and one steal. Stefan Simmons had 11 points and seven rebounds. Percy Zentz and Chase both had nine points. Caden Mattson finished with eight points, and Beckett Slayton and Eric Mote both had five.
For Woodland, who finishes up at 10-8 on the season, Sabre Lee Phelps had eight points, while Chris Plissey had six. Gavin Gardner and Riley Russell both had five points. Drew Hayward had four points, Justin Harriman had two, and Matthew Miller added one point.
George Stevens now advances to the semifinals on Friday afternoon at 3:35 p.m. when they face Dexter. The Tigers were victorious over Lee Academy in Tuesdays first evening quarterfinal.
