BANGOR- The Husson Eagles and Colby Sawyer Chargers finished up a weekend four game conference series on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles and Chargers had split Saturday, with Husson winning the first game 7-2, before falling 8-1 in game two.
In Sundays first game, Colby Sawyers Brandan Thurber launched a line drive two run homer down the left field line in the top of the second inning to give the Chargers a 2-0 lead.
Colby Sawyer added to the lead in the top of the third when Nate Frongillo slapped an RBI double to left, to make it 3-0.
Husson got RBI hits from Sam Houston in the third and an RBI from Logan Rogerson in the last at bat in the seventh, but came up short 3-2.
Ben Holmes (2-1) took the loss on the mound for the Eagles going six innings, allowing three runs, two earned, eight hits, 10 strikeouts, and one walk. Ryan Glendye (2-2) got the win for the visitors going the full seven innings, allowing two runs, both earned, seven hits, two strikeouts, and no walks.
In the second game, Husson trailed early on a Justin Devoid inside the park homerun to center field in the top of the second to make it 1-0, but would rally in the later innings to pick up a split of the weekend series.
An infield single by Ryan Rebar tied the game in the fourth at 1-1, after Mike Wong had hit a long one out triple to right center.
Husson took their first lead of the day in the fifth. After an error allowed Christian Cornell to reach first to begin the inning, the Eagles then got a bunt single from Alex Chapman, a fielders choice with no outs recorded with David Hutchins batting, and then a sacrifice fly RBI from Connor Maguire to take a 2-1 lead. A bases loaded walk to Wong made it 3-1 Husson.
In the sixth, Colby Sawyer cut the lead to one as Joey Fenuccio lined an RBI single to right to make it 3-2. The Eagles though would pad the lead in the bottom half of the sixth on an infield RBI single from Chapman and an RBI single from Maguire, his second RBI of the day to make it 5-2. Dustin Smith closed out the Chargers in the seventh in order, earning his first save of the season. The second out of the inning included a highlight reel diving catch by Corneil in the left center field gap.
Ryan Allender (2-1) earned the win on the hill for the Eagles going six innings, allowing two runs, both earned, six hits, and no walks. Connor Henry (0-2) went five innings in the loss for the Chargers, allowing four runs, two earned, four hits, five strikeouts, and one walk.
