Leon and Barnes lead Red Sox to win over Tigers

The Boston Red Sox scored four runs in the eighth inning and held on for a 7-5 win at Detroit on Sunday afternoon. 

Sandy Leon had the big hit when he smashed a two run single in the eighth inning.

Matt Barnes pitched two innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win. Rick Porcello started and gave up four runs in six innings. Craig Kimbrel picked up the save despite struggling with his control in the ninth inning.

Marco Hernandez had three hits from the number nine spot in the batting order. Leon and Chris Young had two hits each. Andrew Benintendi had a big hit to even the score in the seventh inning. Brock Holt drew a bases loaded walk to even the score in the eighth inning before the dramatics from Leon.

Chris Sale and Justin Verlander meet in an early season showdown to end the four game series on Monday afternoon at 1:10.
