The Ottawa Senators were 3-0-1 against the Boston Bruins during the regular season. And then the playoffs started Wednesday night. Brad Marchand scored a late third period goal and Tuuka Rask made 26 saves to lead the Bruins to a 2-1 victory in game one of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at the Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa, Ontario.
Bobby Ryan had staked the home Senators to a 1-0 lead at the 10:28 mark of the second period. Rask made several key stops to keep the Bruins in the game after two periods, with 12 saves in the second alone. The Bruins didn’t have any shots on goal in the middle period and went 24:55 without a shot on goal.
Frank Vatrano broke the no shots streak when he scored his first career playoff goal at 4:55 of the third to knot the score at 1-1.
Marchand, who missed the final two games of the regular season due to suspension, would score the game winner at 17:27 off a rebound and deflection off Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson.
Neither team were successful on the powerplay as the Bruins went 0-4, and the Senators 0-2.
Game two will be Saturday in Ottawa at 3 p.m.
