Mookie Betts went 4-5, but it wasn’t enough as the Boston Red Sox fell to the Tampa Bay Rays 10-5 in the opener of a four game series on Friday night at Fenway Park.
Rick Porcello was roughed up for eight runs, including four home runs in 4.1 innings. Porcello allowed eight hits and walked two, while striking out five.
The Red Sox scored three runs in the ninth inning, but it was not nearly enough. Xander Bogaerts had three hits, while Dustin Pedroia and Andrew Benintendi recorded two hits each.
Chris Archer picked up his second career win against the Red Sox. Archer allowed one run in 5.2 innings.
Chris Sale will take the mound for the Red Sox in game two of the series on Saturday afternoon at 4 PM. Jake Odorizzi will pitch for the Rays.
