Alyssa Derrick and Erika Leonard both hit three run home runs in the first two innings Sunday morning, to lead the Maine softball team to a mercy rule shortened five inning 8-0 win over Stony Brook at Mike Kessock Field.
Maine, 12-18 overall and now 7-1 in America East, now takes first place overall in the conference standings with the three game weekend sweep over the Seawolves. Stony Brook falls to 9-21, 5-5.
Felicia Lennon also added a two run double in a five run second inning. Erin Bogdonavich (4-8) got her second win of the series in the circle going five innings, allowing no runs, four hits, two walks, with seven strikeouts.
Melissa Rahrich (6-9) lost her second game of the weekend going just 1.1 innings, allowing six runs, all earned, four hits, and two walks. Jourdin Hering had two hits for the Seawolves.
Maine returns to action with a non conference stop at Holy Cross Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Bears get back into America East play next Friday and Saturday at UMBC. Fridays first pitch is 3 p.m., with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.
