For the second straight game of their first round quarterfinal series against the Ottawa Senators, the Boston Bruins lost a heartbreaker Monday night.

In game two Saturday, Boston blew a 3-1 lead after two periods only to lose 4-3 in overtime. On Monday night at TD Garden in Boston, the Bruins rallied from down 3-0 in the second period to tie the game 3-3 after two, but Bobby Ryan would score 5:43 into overtime on the powerplay to give the Senators a 4-3 win and a 2-1 series lead.

Mike Hoffman and Derick Brasard scored first period goals to stake Ottawa to a 2-0 lead. Hoffman added a second goal on the powerplay 3:42 into the second period to make it 3-0. The Bruins then would get goals from Noel Acciari (first career playoff goal), David Backes, and David Pastrnak 7:46 apart to tie the game 3-3 after 40 minutes. Former Boston University defenseman Charlie McAvoy recorded his first career NHL point with an assist on the Pastrnak goal.

Both Craig Anderson and Tuuka Rask made big saves to keep the game tied throughout the third period, including a point blank save on a one timer by Anderson on Bostons David Krecji just over 10 minutes into the final period.

Riley Nash took a roughing penalty 4:38 into overtime, leading to the Ryan game winner just 1:05 later.

Anderson made 17 saves to earn the win in net for Ottawa. Rask made 29 saves in the losing cause as the Senators outshot the Bruins 32-20. Ottawa was 2-4 on the powerplay, while Boston was 1-3.

Game four will be played in Boston on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
