Husson Athletics: Softball sweeps again, baseball swept on road

The Husson University softball team finished off their home schedule with senior day at the Winkin Complex Sunday with a pair of dominating wins over Lyndon State. Meanwhile at Lyndon State, the baseball team lost a pair of games to the Hornets.

In the softball games, the Eagles cruised past the visitors from Lyndon State by the mercy rule in both games by scores of 12-0 and 10-0.

Tamara Aunchman had two hits and three RBI, including a two run homer in game one. Chloe Gorey added three hits and three RBI on the day and Nicole Andrade, Casey Lopes, and Jen Jones all added two RBI each to pace the offense.

In the circle, Alannah Healy (7-3) went the distance for the win in the mercy rule shortened five inning game one. Healy only allowed two hits and had nine strikeouts. Courtney McIntyre (6-0) went the first three innings in game two, allowing just three hits with a pair of strikeouts to pick up a win.

The Eagles are now 23-9 overall and 8-0 in the NAC. Husson has only allowed five runs in eight conference games. Husson plays a non-conference doubleheader at Bates on Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m. The Hornets dropped to 0-12, 0-4 in NAC.

 

At Lyndon State, the Husson Eagles baseball team could only come up with a four game split on the weekend after being swept on Sunday by scores of 6-1 and 8-6.

Logan Rogerson and Mike Wong both had a pair of RBI on the day to lead the Eagles offense, while Matt Smith, Sam Huston, and Cam Archer also had RBI hits.

Ben Holmes (3-2) got knocked around in a bit in the game one loss on the hill for the Eagles. Holmes went 5.2 innings, allowing six earned runs, 12 hits, with one walk, and one strikeout. Jacob Gauvin (1-1) took the loss in relief of Ryan Allender in game two. Gauvin went 1.1 innings, allowing no runs, one hit, with one walk, and one strikeout.

Lyndon State improves to 16-12, 9-7 NAC. Husson is now 18-14, 11-7. Husson dips right back into NAC play with a doubleheader at UMaine-Farmington Tuesday at 2 p.m.
