Conor Maguire and Alex Chapman recorded two hits in each game to lead the Husson Eagles baseball team to a doubleheader sweep at the University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday afternoon.
In game one, Austin Smith pitched a three hitter to lead the Eagles to a 5-1 win. Smith allowed one run and one walk, while striking out nine.
With the game tied at one in the fifth inning, the Eagles got a sacrifice fly from Sam Huston. Husson got three big insurance runs in the sixth inning. Luke Covey got the big hit when he ripped a double that scored Chapman and Matt Graciano.
Covey went 3-3 with three RBI, while Cam Archer joined Maguire and Chapman with two hits each.
Husson scored two runs in the fifth inning of game two and held off the Beavers to earn a 5-3 victory.
The Eagles bullpen pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief. Cody Collins picked up his first win. Collins got a big strikeout in the fourth inning. Jacob Gauvin pitched two scoreless inningd, while Ben Walls closed it out in the seventh inning.
