Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 219 past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we had six Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Freshman Leine McKechnie has helped the Penobscot Valley High School (PVHS) Howlers get off to a hot start to the season. McKechnie earned two wins in the circle, including her second no-hitter of the season. PVHS joins Kayla Dube, Arianna McKinnon, Amy Hallett, Ryley Buck, Jarrett Priest, and Thomas Spencer as student/athletes from PVHS to earn athlete of the week honors.

Leine McKechnie- PVHS- softball- pitched a three hitter with 13 strikeouts and also hit two home runs and four RBI in 7-1 win over Stearns. Pitched her second no hitter of the season with 10 strikeouts and also had a double and two RBI in 21-0 five inning win over Lee.
Runner up
Kate Tolman- Mattanawcook- softball- the sophomore hit a grand slam to give the Lynx a 9-8 lead (overcoming 8-0 deficit) in 11-10 win over Houlton. Recorded three hits, including a home run and two RBI in 14-2 win over Calais.
Other nominations
Jewel Lamb- PCHS- softball- pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts in 4-1 win over Schenck. Pitched a two hitter with 10 strikeouts in 6-3 win over Greenville.
Lanie Perry- Narraguagus- softball- pitched a one hitter, striking out 16, while also having two RBI in 6-1 win over Calais.
Katelin Saunders- Bucksport- softball- pitched a one hitter with 15 strike outs plus had three hits, including two doubles and four RBI in 15-0 five inning win over George Stevens.
Emma Alley- Stearns – softball- had three hits, including two doubles and four RBI in 14-0 win over Bangor Christian.
