The Boston Red Sox scored 10 runs in the ninth inning to break open a close game and get a 17-6 win at Minnesota on Sunday afternoon.
Mookie Betts had three hits, including a home run from the leadoff spot. Dustin Pedroia and Andrew Benintendi each hit a home run in a three run first inning.
Sandy Leon hit two home runs and drove in four runs. Xander Bogaerts, Mitch Moreland, Chris Young, and Benintendi had two hits each. Moreland had four RBI.
Chris Sale (3-2) earned the victory. Sale allowed four runs (all in the fourth inning) on four hits and three walks. He struck out 10.
With the Red Sox leading 7-6 in the eighth inning, manager John Farrell brought in closer Craig Kimbrel with one out and the tying run at third base. Kimbrel struck out Joe Mauer and Max Kepler to get out of the jam.
The Red Sox followed that up with their biggest inning of the season so far. The Red Sox have scored 28 runs in the last two games since Farrell went with the current lineup.
