Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 221 past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we had eight Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Freshman Leine McKechnie earned her second straight athlete of the week honor. McKechnie helped the undefeated Penobscot Valley high school Howlers go 4-0 during the week. She threw two no-hitters this week and now has thrown four this season.
Roadrunner Taxi female athlete of the week
Leine McKechnie- PVHS- softball- pitched a no hitter with 15 strikeouts in 12-0 six inning win over Penquis. Pitched a five hitter with 15 strikeouts and also hit a triple and one RBI in 6-3 win over PCHS. Pitched a three hitter with 16 strikeouts in 5-0 win over PCHS. Pitched a no-hitter (fourth of the season) with 11 strikeouts and had three hits, including a double, triple, and seven RBI in 34-0 win over Lee.
Runner up
Olivia Albert- Old Town- softball- had four hits, including a double, three run homer, and four RBI in 11-8 win over MDI. Had one triple and three HBP in 13-1 win over John Bapst. Had two hits, including a two run homer in 19-0 win over Caribou. Pitched a three hitter with seven strikeouts plus had two hits, including a double and three RBI in 12-0 win over Caribou.
Other nominations
Sarah Guimond- Winslow- softball- had a double, triple, and four RBI in 8-3 win over Erskine.
Mackenzie Beaudry- Foxcroft- softball- pitched a no hitter and struck out 11 in 3-2 win over Ellsworth.
Maggie Coutts- Orono- softball- had four hits and four RBI in 16-8 win over Dexter. Had theee hits, including a double and triple in 19-2 win over Sumner.
Kate Saunders- Bucksport- softball- pitched a two hitter with 10 strikeouts in 16-0 win over Sumner.
Bailey Robbins- Winslow- softball- had four hits, including two doubles and eight RBI in 31-2 win over MCI.
Lexi Ireland- PVHS – softball- had three home runs, two doubles, and eight RBI in 34-0 win over Lee.
