DEXTER– Chandler Rockwell reached base three times on two hits, including a double, one run scored, and one RBI to lead the Foxcroft Ponies baseball team to a 6-1 win over Dexter on Monday afternoon.
Rockwell also earned the win on the mound for the Ponies. He allowed one run on three hits and five walks, while striking out five in 5.2 innings. Ryan Laffin locked down the victory by recording the final four outs, including stranding the bases loaded in the sixth inning.
Foxcroft had a golden opportunity in the first inning, but the Ponies left the bases loaded when Tigers center fielder Zach White made a diving catch to retire Jacob Olsen.
Foxcroft took a lead when they took advantage of three walks and one Tigers error. The Ponies again left the bases loaded when Brayden Miller struck out Billy Brock to end the inning.
The Ponies took control of the game in the fourth inning when they scored four runs. The trouble for the Tigers started when Jeremy Richard drew a walk with two outs. Rockwell followed with a double that scored Richard from first base. Olsen had a two run single to give Foxcroft a 5-0 lead.
Matt Richards scored the only run for the Tigers (6-5) when Trevor Richards drew a bases loaded walk in the sixth inning. Matt Richards had an outstanding game as Tigers catcher. He threw out four runners attempting to steal.
Nathan Richards, Matt Richards, Tyler Handy, and Trevor Richards each reached base twice for the Tigers. Miller took the loss on the mound. He allowed five runs (one earned) on three hits and 10 walks, he struck out two in four innings. Trevor Richards allowed one run in three innings of relief. Richards allowed one run on three hits and one walk, while striking out three.
Richard recorded three walks and two runs scored from the leadoff spot for the Ponies. Olsen had two hits. Foxcroft (8-4) will host Dexter on Tuesday afternoon.
