Alivia Hunt went 4-4 with two triples, while Jewel Lamb pitched a strong game in her last regular season contest to lead the Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Pirates softball team to a 6-3 win over Dexter on Wednesday afternoon.
The Pirates started quickly with two runs in the first inning and two more in the second. Erin Speed and the Pirates took advantage of two Tigers errors to score the first run. Hunt smacked her first triple and came around to score on a single from Sara Almirante.
The Pirates second inning rally came after two quick outs. Lamb got hit by a pitch, Hunt followed with a triple. Hunt made it 4-0 when she scored on a wild pitch.
PCHS scored another run in the third inning, again it came after two quick outs. Olivia Riitano drew a walk, Rachel Beckwith followed with a single, Speed sent Riitano home with a single.
Dexter had their own two out rally in the fourth inning. The Tigers took advantage of a PCHS error and got a two run single from Addyson Herrick that cut the deficit 5-3.
The Pirates got an insurance run in the sixth inning when Lamb smacked a double and Hunt sent her home with a single to make it 6-3.
Lamb allowed three unearned runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Hunt recorded two runs scored, two RBI, and one stolen base. PCHS finishes the regular season with a 9-7 record. The Pirates appear set to host a preliminary round game early next week.
Megan Peach had two hits for the Tigers. Regan McNally allowed six runs (four earned) on nine hits and one walk, she struck out four. McNally also reached base twice. Dexter (6-8) will finish their regular season at undefeated Mattanawcook on Thursday and home against undefeated Bucksport on Friday.
