BANGOR, Me- In a game that took just over an hour to play, the Bangor Rams defeated the Hampden Broncos 2-0 Thursday in a Class A baseball quarterfinal played at Mansfield Stadium.

The Rams struck with all the offense they would need with two unearned runs in the bottom of the first. Three straight Hampden errors would make a winner out of Bangor starting pitcher Peter Kemble.

Kemble led off and reached on an error by Hampden second baseman Gavin Partridge. George Payne then hit one back to Hampden pitcher Alex McKenney. McKenneys throw to first was high and allowed Kemble to score from first. Payne ended up at third. Derek Fournier then hit a groundball to Partridge, that was misplayed again, allowing Payne to score.

Hampden outhit Bangor 5-2, but only got one runner to second base in the game. McKenney was that baserunner in the Broncos last at bat in the top of the seventh, but was picked off by Kemble to end the game.

McKenney pitched well in the loss for Hampden, who ends their season at 11-6. McKenney went six innings, allowing just two hits, both unearned, with 10 strikeouts. Kemble went seven innings, allowing no runs, five hits, with seven strikeouts.

Bangor (13-4) advances to the semifinals on Saturday and will either host Camden Hills or head on the road to face top seed Oxford Hills.
