The finalist for the John W. Winkin Award (Mr. Baseball) were named on Monday. A player from Eastern/Northern Maine has earned the honor three of the the past four years. Ryan Rebar (Foxcroft Academy) won in 2013, Eric Hoogterp (Old Town) won in 2015, while Trevor DeLaite (Bangor) captured the honor last year.
This year, a total of four Northern Maine players are among the 10 finalist. Jackson Coutts (Orono), Nate Howard (Erskine), Zach Nash (Hermon), and Alex Maxsimic (Brewer). Another player in the area, Barrett Grant from Searsport is also on the list. Coutts and the Orono Red Riots will play Dexter in the class C regional final. Live audio coverage starts Wednesday at 6:25 PM. Nate Howard and the Eagles will be Old Town in the class B regional final Tuesday at 3 PM. Grant and the Vikings will take on Richmond in the class D Southern Maine final Tuesday night at 6:30.
Also among the finalists are Brandon Brunel (Sacopee Valley), Dustin Crawford (Madison/Carrabec), Jared Brooks (Cheverus), Trevor Lebonte (York), Cam Gaurino (Falmouth).
