University of Maine athletic director Karlton Creech has announced that Nick Derba has become the head baseball coach for the Black Bears.
Derba had been announced as interim head coach on December 17 of last year. Derba is the 25th head baseball coach at the University of Maine. He officially takes over on July 1.
Derba led Maine to its highest win total in four years (25), including a four game winning streak in the America East Tournament and a berth in the title game before falling to UMBC.
UMaine and Mahaney Diamond will be the host of the America East Tournament next spring.
