The Boston Red Sox scored two runs in the first inning on Monday night. That was enough for Chris Sale and the Red Sox bullpen as they earned a 4-1 win over the red hot Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park.
Sale (10-3) allowed one run on four hits and two walks in 6.1 innings. Sale struck out nine.
The bullpen pitched 2.2 innings of perfect baseball. Heath Hembree relieved Sale and got a big double play. Matt Barnes struck out the side in the eighth inning, while Craig Kimbrel set th side down in order in the ninth to earn his 21st save.
Mich Moreland had two hits and two RBI, including a solo home run in the first inning. It is the third straight game that Moreland has hit a homer in his first at bat.
Mookie Betts and Dustin Pedroia had two hits each. Betts scored two runs. Tzu-Wei Lin got his first major league hit.
