Rick Porcello pitched his best game on Saturday afternoon.. it wasn’t enough as Alex Cobb also had a great outing to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to a 1-0 win over the Boston Red Sox at St. Petersburg.
Cobb allowed only two hits and one walk, while striking out three in 7.2 shutout innings. Alex Colome pitched the final 1.1 to earn the save.
Porcello (4-11) allowed one run on six hits in his complete game (eight innings) effort. Porcello didn’t issue a walk and struck out seven.
The Red Sox had runners in scoring position with one out in the ninth inning. Colome struck out Hanley Ramirez and retired Chris Young.
David Price and Chris Archer will be on the mound for the series and first half of the season finale on Sunday afternoon.
