The Boston Red Sox announced Sunday evening that they have called up one of their top prospects in the minor league system to help at third base.
Rafael Devers will be starting at third base Tuesday night when the Sox face the Seattle Mariners out in Seattle.
So far in 2017, Devers has batted .300 at Double A Portland in 77 games with 18 homers and 55 RBI in 287 plate appearances. Most recently Devers was at Triple A Pawtucket where in nine games in 35 at bats he hit .400 with a pair of homers and four RBI.
The Red Sox have been seeking some third base help since they released Pablo Sandoval, and lost out to the NY Yankees in a trade for former Chicago White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier.
