Patriots linebacker retiring after 11 seasons

July 30, 2017

Per NFL trusted sources, New England Patriots outside linebacker Rob Ninkovich is expected to retire from the NFL in a news conference on Sunday afternoon.

Sources also say that Ninkovich has been discussing this for some time with head coach Bill Belichek.

Ninkovich, 33, signed with New England in 2009 after time with both the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins.

For his career Ninkovich had 460 tackles and 46 sacks. He finishes fifth all time in sacks with the Patriots behind Andre Tippett (100), Willie McGinest (78), Chris Slade (51), and Mike Vrabel (48).

Last season Ninkovich had 31 tackles and also four sacks, which was third on the team. Ninkovich walks away on the high end for his career, having won his second Lombardi Trophy with New England last season.
