August 9, 2017

Chris Sale struck out 13, while allowing only two hits in eight shutout innings to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 2-0 win over the Rays on Tuesday night.

It is the 15th game that Sale has had at least 10 strikeouts. Pedro Martinez (19) in 1999 is the only Red Sox pitcher with more 10 strikeout games during a season.

The Red Sox finished with 16 strikeouts, as Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the ninth inning.

Eduardo Nunez had three hits and is hitting .422 since joining the Red Sox. Xander Bogaerts also had three hits. Andrew Benintendi and Jackie Bradley JR recorded two hits each.

The Red Sox have now won seven straight games and have a four game lead over the Yankees in the American Leagie East.
