Red Sox streak ends at 8 as Yankees win series opener

August 12, 2017

The Boston Red Sox had their ninth win in a row in their sights on Friday night at Yankee stadium.

A five run eighth inning for the Yankees ended that possibility and gave the Red Sox a 5-4 loss

The Red Sox had a 3-0 lead heading into the eighth inning. Addison Reed couldn’t record an out and allowed four runs as the lead disappeared. The Yankees added another run to take a 5-3 lead.

The Red Sox scored a run off a struggling Aroldis Chapman in the ninth inning. The rally was halted when Eduardo Nunez got thrown out by Aaron Hicks at third base.

Hanley Ramirez and Andrew Benintendi each had two hits, including a home run and two RBI. Eduardo Rodrigiez pitched six scoreless innings.
